Trachycarpus fortunei

The Trachycarpus fortunei (Chamaerops excelsa), or Chinese hemp palm is the most sold hardy fan palm tree in Northern Europe! The Trachycarpus fortunei  is a palm that originally comes from East Asia. You can even find the Trachycarpus fortunei palms high up in the Himalayas. Trachycarpus fortunei  hemp palms are 1 of the toughest  palms in the world.  Once the Trachycarpus has adapted to its environment, it can grow up to 30 cm trunk hight per year in favorable conditions and can reach a hight of 10-12 meter. 

This palm has a fantastic appearance with its rugged, fibrous bark and dark green  fan-shaped leaves.
The Trachycarpus fortunei  tolerates many different conditions. They do not need a warm climate to grow, but they grow in cool and humid weather.
In good condition, the Trachycarpus fortunei can resist dry winters up to -12 ° C / -18 ° C. 

If it becomes severe for a long time, it is advisable to protect the Trachycarpus  temporarily with jute or fleece cover.
